LiveOak Fiber Announces $100M Georgia Expansion
A new all-fiber network is planned across Augusta, Evans and Martinez, with construction due to start in January 2027.
LiveOak Fiber is committing $100 million to build a new fiber-optic network across the Augusta region. The company says the privately funded project will cover Augusta, Evans and Martinez and will serve homes, multi-dwelling properties and businesses with symmetrical fiber connections.
Where LiveOak is building
The new investment is focused on three connected markets in and around Augusta. LiveOak has not published a total number of addresses for this particular $100 million project, so the most accurate way to describe the footprint today is by the communities named in the announcement rather than estimating passings.
The project adds another major Georgia expansion to LiveOak’s growing Southeast footprint. The provider already operates fiber networks elsewhere in Georgia and continues to expand into additional markets across the region.
What the $100 million investment is meant to build
LiveOak describes the project as a long-term infrastructure investment rather than a short promotional expansion. The money is going toward a new all-fiber network built to support residential, multi-dwelling and commercial customers.
The company also says the build should create work for local employees, contractors and suppliers. That means the economic impact is intended to extend beyond customer subscriptions once construction begins.
Why symmetrical fiber is the important part
LiveOak specifically says the new network will provide symmetrical fiber speeds. That means customers can receive upload and download performance at the same rate on qualifying plans, rather than the much slower uploads common on many cable and older broadband connections.
Streaming, large downloads, websites, games and software updates all rely heavily on downstream capacity.
Cloud backups, video calls, livestreams, large files and business applications benefit from stronger upstream performance.
If you want the technical difference in plain English, our guide to asymmetrical vs symmetrical internet explains why upload speeds can matter as much as headline downloads.
The connection type matters too. An all-fiber or FTTH network carries fiber directly to the customer instead of relying on copper or coaxial cable for the final stretch. Our guide to different types of broadband explains how full fiber compares with cable, DSL, fixed wireless and satellite.
Construction starts in January 2027
The rollout timetable is unusually clear for an announcement this early. LiveOak expects construction to begin in January 2027 and says the first customers should be connected by April.
LiveOak confirms Augusta, Evans and Martinez as the three initial markets in the project.
Crews are due to start the physical network build across the region.
The first completed neighborhoods are expected to begin receiving service.
More addresses should become serviceable as additional network segments are completed.
What residents and businesses should do now
This is still a build announcement, not a claim that every address in Augusta, Evans and Martinez can order LiveOak today. The company says it will publish updates as new areas become eligible for service.
Residents and businesses can register with LiveOak for construction and availability updates.
Neighborhoods will become eligible at different times as fiber construction progresses.
Once available, compare price, upload and download speeds, equipment and any installation terms at your address.
For most customers, the real significance of the project is competition. LiveOak’s arrival gives more households and businesses another fixed broadband network to compare rather than simply another package running over an existing provider’s infrastructure.
