What Happened to the Virgin Media Community Forum?
Virgin Media’s Community Forum disappeared during a major platform migration that was supposed to bring the Virgin Media and O2 communities together. That plan became too complex, the relaunch slipped past its expected summer window, and the forum was still not back by the end of September 2026.
Virgin Media’s Community Forum was taken offline as part of a plan to move both Virgin Media and O2 onto a new community platform and merge the two customer forums. The project proved more complicated than expected. Virgin Media O2 later abandoned the immediate merger plan and decided to bring the two communities back separately first. The expected July/August return window passed, and the latest 29 September update confirmed the upgrade still had not been completed.
The Virgin Media forum shutdown timeline
The two brands planned to move away from their existing community setup and bring both forums together on a new platform.
Customers could no longer create new posts, and questions began to grow around when the replacement community would actually arrive.
Virgin Media O2 confirmed that merging the two large communities was proving too complex. The new plan became to reintroduce Virgin Media and O2 separately first.
Industry reporting had suggested July or August as an aspiration for Virgin Media’s forum to return, but the service remained unavailable.
A fresh update confirmed that the forum upgrades had still not been completed, leaving customers without a confirmed relaunch date.
Why has the forum taken so long to come back?
The job was not simply changing the colour scheme or moving a few discussion boards. Virgin Media O2 was trying to move huge amounts of historic community data while also changing platform and combining two established customer communities.
Virgin Media and O2 each had their own historic discussions, members, account data, moderation history and support content.
The existing community setup was being replaced, with Sprinklr identified as the new platform supplier.
Trying to combine both communities at the same time made the migration harder, so Virgin Media O2 switched to a separate-relaunch plan.
The important distinction is that this looks like a delayed rebuild rather than a deliberate permanent closure. Virgin Media O2 has previously said it wants the communities to return, but the company has not given customers a firm public date.
Why does the Community Forum matter?
Experienced customers often answered technical questions before official support staff became involved.
Years of existing discussions helped customers find solutions to unusual router, account, TV, phone and email problems.
Virgin Media forum staff could sometimes pick up unresolved account or service issues after community members had exhausted the obvious fixes.
Forum discussions also made recurring support problems visible to other customers instead of leaving each issue inside a private call or chat.
That support context is worth remembering when judging the provider more broadly. Our current Virgin Media broadband review finds that network performance can be excellent, while customer support and billing are still more mixed.
Where can Virgin Media customers get help while the forum is offline?
The missing forum does not mean Virgin Media has removed every support route. The company’s normal help pages, service tools, messaging and phone support remain available.
The main help portal covers broadband, billing, TV, landline, accounts, moving home, complaints and service-status checks.
Virgin Media also offers a messaging-style Virtual Assistant for customers who do not want to wait on a phone call.
Virgin Media says TV, broadband and home-phone customers can call 150 from a Virgin Media landline or 0345 454 1111 from another phone.
For broadband or TV faults, Virgin Media’s online tools can check local outages and run diagnostic steps before an engineer is needed.
The main thing customers lose is the public, searchable community layer. Official help routes can still resolve problems, but they do not replace years of peer-written troubleshooting threads or the ability to see whether other customers are reporting the same unusual issue.
When will the Virgin Media Community Forum return?
There is still no reliable public date to put in a calendar. Earlier reporting suggested that Virgin Media hoped to restore its forum around July or August 2026, with O2 following separately, but that target passed without a public relaunch.
The latest 29 September update is therefore important because it confirms that the project is still active but not finished. Until Virgin Media O2 publishes a firm launch date, anything more precise would be speculation.
The forum delay also lands against a wider customer-service backdrop. In July, Ofcom fined Virgin Media £28 million over historic cancellation-process failures. That is a separate issue from the forum migration, but readers interested in the wider support picture can see our explainer on Virgin Media’s £28m Ofcom fine.
The forum is delayed, not confirmed dead
Virgin Media’s Community Forum went offline because Virgin Media O2 tried to combine a platform migration with a merger of two large customer communities. That proved too complicated, so the company switched to bringing the communities back separately. The expected summer return slipped, and as of 29 September 2026 there is still no confirmed relaunch date.
