PROS & CONS

WHO IS IT FOR?

• Small Homes: Best suited to one or two people, or lighter-use households with a few active devices.
• Everyday Streamers: A good fit for 4K Netflix, YouTube and catch-up TV on a few devices.
• Remote Workers: Reliable enough for Teams or Zoom calls, browsing and downloading standard work files.
• Budget-Conscious Users: A cost-conscious entry point into Virgin Media fibre broadband without paying for ultrafast tiers.

WHO IS IT NOT FOR?

• Competitive Gamers and Heavy Downloaders: If you regularly download huge game updates, stream while gaming or upload gameplay clips, the 20Mbps upload speed may feel limiting.
• Busy Smart Homes: Homes with several security cameras, cloud backups and lots of connected devices may be better served by a faster Virgin Media package.
• Short-Term Renters: The standard 24-month minimum term is not ideal if you expect to move again soon.

SPEED AND PERFORMANCE

The M125 package is advertised with an average download speed of 132Mbps and an average upload speed of 20Mbps. That keeps M125 firmly in the superfast entry-level category: enough for normal household streaming, browsing, calls and gaming, but well below Virgin Media’s faster M250, M350, M500 and gigabit tiers.

For day-to-day use, M125 still has enough speed for smaller households. It can handle 4K streaming, browsing, video calls, casual online gaming and several connected devices, but homes with frequent large uploads, multiple 4K streams or lots of smart cameras may want M250 or above.

Virgin Media’s minimum guaranteed download speed is typically 50% of the advertised speed at the router, which puts M125 at around 66Mbps. If your line consistently falls below the guaranteed level and Virgin cannot resolve the issue under the relevant speed-code process, you may be able to leave without an early disconnection fee.

NETWORK TECHNOLOGY & HARDWARE

Virgin Media is different from many UK broadband providers because it does not rely on the standard Openreach network in most cable areas. Instead, it uses its own network, with availability and access technology varying by postcode. The Router Situation
Virgin Media supplies a Wi-Fi Hub with M125, but its current public M125 deal pages do not promise one specific Hub model for every address. Hardware can vary with the local network and fulfilment route. If Wi-Fi 6 or a particular Hub matters to you, check the order summary or ask Virgin Media before completing the order rather than assuming the promotional image guarantees that router.

Essential Security
Virgin Media includes Essential Security with its broadband packages. It is built into the network and helps warn against scam or harmful websites, with parental-control options available through your account. It is useful extra protection, although it should not replace sensible device security and regular software updates.

PRICING AND FLEX TV OPTION

As checked on 2 September 2026, Virgin Media’s main broadband-only page lists M125 at £23.99 a month for 24 months, then £62 a month. Discounted postcode-specific pricing can appear, so the basket for your address is the final figure to rely on.

• Contract Length: The standard broadband-only minimum term is 24 months.
• Standard price after the minimum term: currently £62 per month on the main M125 broadband-only offer, before any later changes that apply under the contract.
• Annual price rise: for customers joining or renewing after 2 October 2025, Virgin Media says the monthly charge for main services rises by a fixed £4 each April, unless the agreement says otherwise.
• Set-up: Virgin Media currently advertises no set-up fee on broadband packages. If you are eligible for QuickStart self-install but choose an engineer instead, Virgin Media says a £30 engineer charge can apply.

Adding Flex TV
If you want TV alongside M125, Virgin Media Flex can be added to broadband packages. Flex currently costs £5 a month on a 30-day rolling contract, uses a Stream box, includes 150+ channels plus catch-up services, and lets you add or remove optional entertainment subscriptions. Your broadband still keeps its own minimum term, so check the full basket before ordering.

Switching credit: As of 2 September 2026, Virgin Media is advertising up to £300 switching credit for eligible new customers who face early termination fees with their old provider. The current offer is listed as ending on 20 September 2026, so treat this as a time-limited promotion rather than a permanent M125 feature.
