YouFibre Broadband Review (Updated 2026)

XGS-PON Technology

YouFibre operates mainly on the Netomnia full-fibre network, which is built around XGS-PON technology. In plain English, that means a modern fibre standard with much more headroom than older copper or part-fibre connections. It is the reason YouFibre can sell multi-gigabit packages and offer fast upload speeds as well as fast downloads.

For customers, the key difference is symmetry. Downloading a large game, uploading work files, backing up photos to the cloud or sending video projects should all feel much less one-sided than on providers where upload speeds are a fraction of download speeds.

YouFibre Hub

YouFibre now promotes Wi-Fi 7 as standard for new customers, subject to availability. The YouFibre Hub covers YOU 200, YOU 500, YOU 1000 and YOU 2000, while the Hub Pro is paired with YOU 8000 and adds a 6GHz band to help with very high speeds and congestion. Older customers may still have earlier hardware such as Eero or Arris kit, depending on install date and stock at the time.

A Trip to Chapel Allerton

I’m in Chapel Allerton every few weeks, so I recently checked a friend’s YouFibre setup to see whether the hype matched the real experience. They are on a gigabit plan, and the first thing that stood out was the install quality: the fibre entry point and ONT were tidy, unobtrusive and placed sensibly.

On a phone over Wi-Fi from the sofa, I saw more than 670Mbps in testing. That is not a guarantee for every home, because Wi-Fi depends heavily on router placement, device capability and walls, but it was still seriously quick. 4K streams started instantly, large downloads moved fast and the connection felt responsive rather than merely “good on paper”.

What Gigabit Actually Feels Like

The biggest benefit is not the headline speed test number; it is the time you stop wasting. My friend works with large video files, and on their old connection, uploading could effectively take over the connection for ages. With symmetrical full fibre, big uploads finished in minutes rather than dominating the evening. Game updates on the PS5 also moved quickly, especially compared with older copper-based connections.

The only catch was the house itself. Like many older Leeds properties, it has thick walls, so the upstairs signal dropped compared with the room near the router. If you live in a larger home, a stone-built property or anywhere with awkward room layouts, budget for mesh coverage or consider YouMesh so the speed reaches the rooms where you actually use it.

YouFibre Plans

YouFibre’s tiers vary by postcode, but its June 2026 offer terms list residential 12-month promotional pricing for YOU 200, YOU 1000, YOU 2000 and YOU 8000. The wider price book also references other tiers such as 150Mbps and 500Mbps, so availability can differ depending on your address and route to order.

YOU 200: The mainstream entry tier in the June 2026 offer terms. It is already comfortably above typical UK median broadband speeds and should suit streaming, working from home and everyday family use.

YOU 1000: The likely sweet spot for many heavy-use homes. YouFibre’s offer terms list average wired speeds of 900Mbps down and 900Mbps up, which is plenty for multiple 4K streams, cloud backups, gaming downloads and home working.

YOU 8000: The extreme option, available only in some areas and best used with compatible wired hardware. YouFibre’s terms list average wired speeds of 7000Mbps on this tier, so it is mainly for enthusiasts, home labs, very large households or creative studios moving huge files.

Static IP Add-on

If you run a Plex server, CCTV system, VPN, remote-access setup or game server, the standard CGNAT connection may feel restrictive. YouFibre offers one static IP add-on for customers who need a consistent public address, but add-on prices can change, so confirm the current cost during checkout or in your account.

By The Numbers

Full fibre is generally more reliable than older copper-based broadband because the connection is fibre all the way to the premises and is far less affected by electrical interference or distance-related copper loss. Low latency is one of the main benefits, but your actual ping still depends on your router placement, Wi-Fi quality, device, server location and wider network routing.

Latency and Huge Patches

Full fibre can be a major upgrade for gamers: latency is usually lower than older copper connections, and large patches can download in minutes on a fast wired setup. If you are wondering whether YouFibre is good for gaming, the raw speed and stability are strong points. The main caveat is CGNAT on standard IPv4, which can affect port forwarding or NAT type for some players. Serious gamers who host sessions or need remote access should consider the static IP add-on.

YouFibre keeps add-ons fairly simple, but these are the main extras customers should know about:

• YouMesh: For larger homes or awkward layouts, you can add mesh boosters to improve coverage in rooms far from the main router.
• YouPhone: YouFibre can provide a VoIP-based home phone service if you still want a landline-style number without a copper phone line.
• Static IP: Useful for VPNs, servers, advanced file sharing, remote access and households that need to avoid the limitations of CGNAT.

Geographic Lottery: The biggest issue is still availability. Netomnia is expanding, but coverage is postcode-specific, so a neighbour may be able to order before you can.

Power-User Setup: The supplied YouFibre Hub is the easiest option and is set up by the installer, but advanced users who want deeper routing controls may still prefer their own router. YouFibre says you can use your own router, though its own hardware is configured to work straight out of the box.

Netomnia & YouFibre

YouFibre is the retail broadband brand customers buy from, while the service runs mainly on Netomnia’s full-fibre network within Substantial Group. Netomnia has also been consolidating its retail presence with brsk (you can read the latest details on the BRSK and YouFibre merger here). As of 2 June 2026, the bigger ownership story is the proposed nexfibre/Substantial deal: on 18 February 2026, InfraVia, Liberty Global and Telefónica announced an agreement for nexfibre to acquire Substantial Group, including Netomnia, for an enterprise value of £2bn. Under the announced structure, nexfibre would acquire the network business and Virgin Media O2 would buy the retail business, including YouFibre and brsk, for £150m. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval, with the CMA case listed as open, so customers do not need to take any immediate action because of the transaction alone.
