FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is my download slower than the calculator says?
Theoretical speed is rarely achieved due to "network overhead" (data packaging), Wi-Fi interference, or the server you are downloading from being busy. Use our "Real-World Overhead" toggle to account for this ~10% loss.
What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
This is the confusion! Internet speed is sold in Megabits (Mbps), but file sizes are in Megabytes (MB). There are 8 bits in 1 byte. That means a 100Mbps connection actually downloads at roughly 12.5 MB/s.
Does Wi-Fi affect download speed?
Yes. Ethernet cables are faster and more stable. Wi-Fi signals degrade through walls and distance, often reducing your max speed by 20-50%.
